Access Statement (last reviewed Jan 2018)

Introduction

Having spent many holidays in self-catering establishments we pride ourselves on the care and attention to detail we have given to our own guest accommodation.  We want our guests to feel both welcome and relaxed during their stay with us and will do all we can to ensure this is the case.  The owner has attended ‘Welcome Host’ training day, and this, combined with a very critical eye to detail, we hope results in a very enjoyable break in Chippenham for our guests.  We give below details of our accommodation and services, if you have any questions/requirements that are not covered in this access statement, please either e-mail or telephone us, we will be happy to consider any reasonable request.

Pre-arrival

Our home is on the outskirts of Chippenham, a medium/large market town. There is a bus stop within 50 yards of the house with regular links to Swindon (20 miles) , Bath  (13 miles) & Devizes(10 miles).  The buses also serve the town and railway station, which is just under 2 miles away.  We have several local taxi firms which can be booked for you if required, they are always at the railway station to meet the trains.

Our quietly decorated 4 star accommodation is set back from the main Chippenham/Calne road (A4) and has the Tourist Board blue and white signage on either side of the driveway, with parking space for 1 vehicle.  The self-contained annexe is at the rear of the property so is quiet and peaceful.  The area has a town by-pass so only local traffic now uses the A4.  This one level annexe is suitable for anyone with limited mobility, the access is flat, and there is just one step into the lounge from the patio area, the walk in bath and raised toilet are useful aids in the bathroom.  Our visitors are welcome to use the patio to enjoy the garden area, there are table and chairs for dining ‘al fresco’, weather permitting!  Please see the links on our web site for more details and pictures of our accommodation, together with details and links of the surrounding area and attractions.

The flat walk into the town takes about 10/15 minutes, we are also close to access points for the national cycle path which provides safe cycling and walking, this will take you through the town if desired.  There is a small market held on Friday and Saturday with a monthly ‘Farmer’s Market’ – usually Tuesday.

There is a public telephone box within 100yds of the property.  Obviously in the case of  an emergency the owners can be contacted and will do all they can to assist.  See the contact list in the guest folder.

Chippenham has two large ‘out of town’ supermarkets, Sainsburys on the A4 towards Bath and Morrisons on the A350 towards the M4 junction.  There is a small shopping area within a 5 minute walk of our home, this has a small Tesco, dispensing chemist, card shop and Chinese take-away.  The town itself has a larger Tesco and the usual range of shops that one would expect to find.  We have a small hospital with limited A & E.

There are many places to eat in the town, most of whom offer a take-away service, some deliver.  This ranges from pizza, Chinese, Indian, kebabs and good old fish and chips.

Arrival

Please advise of your arrival time, so we can be sure to welcome you.  After obtaining your key from the owner, access to the annexe is through a side gate.  There is automatic outside lighting along the flat paved pathway to the pretty patio area leading to the double patio doors which are the entrance to the self-contained annexe, there is full central heating, with smoke detectors in bedroom and living rooms.

Please take a little time to familiarise yourself with the guest information folder in the lounge, paying particular attention to the location of the spare door key and fire prevention – ‘just in case’.  Also in this folder you will find emergency contact numbers for doctors and hospitals, but please speak to the owners if the need for these should arise.

There is a very well appointed lounge with fitted carpet, large radiator, two seater settee, occasional tables, gas coal effect fire, colour t.v. with remote control & teletext, a mini hi-fi unit, dining table and 2 chairs.  If required we can provide a camp bed for use in this room.  A tray for umbrellas &  wet & muddy shoes is provided. A carbon monoxide detector is fitted in the lounge.

A doorway from the lounge leads to a fully fitted double bedroom, again with fitted carpet, radiator, colour t.v. with remote control & teletext and Wi-Fi connection.

The en-suite shower room includes a large shower area with a square head and separate hand held shower, non-slip flooring, radiator and window.

The fully fitted kitchen has Neff appliances (cooker, microwave, ceramic hob and dishwasher) also a full-sized fridge-freezer.  Granite worktops and pull-out larder, stainless steel sink with lever taps.  Tiled floor and radiator.  All crockery,  saucepans, cooking utensils and cutlery are provided. A window with vertical blinds looks out to a pretty garden.
